“Triage” is deciding what priority people with injuries will have based on the severity of the injury. I have worked in both in-home nursing care and family crisis counseling for over 35 years. This outline will briefly prepare you how to call 9-1-1 and/or assess and address the severity of someone’s critical needs. We will be looking at Psalm 38 as a practical example of 3 areas that you will regularly address in your daily care of others: Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual. This is CRISIS COUNSELLING TRIAGE.

…a message by Chaplain Aaron
CRISIS COUNSELLING TRIAGE – Psalm 38

- Historical CRISIS COUNSELLING TRIAGE
a. Numbers 12:4-9 Fiery serpents and today’s paramedics
b. Book of Leviticus – Food preparation, hand washing, disease quarantines and so much more
Leviticus Chapter 14 – sores and mildew remediation – v. 57 “To teach when it is unclean, and when it is clean: this is the law…”
c. Modern Medical – Da Vinci – anatomy, Louis Pasteur – virus, George Washington Carver – serums - Defining CRISIS COUNSELLING TRIAGE
a. Physical – A broken bone, a bleeding cut, an internal ulcer
IT IS: A doctor can define or the medical priest can define
TO DO: You can define secondary physical issues: Hunger, thirst, sleep deprivation, etc. (Deut. 14:29; Matthew 25:35-45; James 1:27)
Be an old-school Boy Scout, then refer appropriately (9-1-1, doctor, etc)
b. Emotional – Anxiety, Depression, Fear
IT IS: The other person’s real or perceived feelings about anything in life.
TO DO: You can agree with the person in need because “subjective emotions are real”. (John 11:35, Listen twice, speak little. (Job 2:13)
Compassionate companion assistance (Galatians 6:2)
c. Spiritual – Guilt, Hopelessness, Emotional Breakdown
IT IS: Only if you are the Holy Spirit can you clearly define the difference between “sweating as like drops of blood” or “a nervous breakdown”. (Hebrews 4:13) I believe that this stage is when the person has allowed the emotion to control their lifestyle. (Ephesians 4:26; 2 Corinthians 4:8, 9)
TO DO: If they are in clear sin – CALL IT SIN. Sin causes guilt. (2 Cor. 7:10; Gal. 6:1; 2 Cor. 2:7) If you are not sure: go back to Emotional supportive measures. It’s OK to err on the side of caution. (Galatians 6:10) - Practical CRISIS COUNSELLING TRIAGE
a. 9-1-1 is your friend & Medication is Biblical

Mind your bedside manners – Be humble, Be sympathetic, Be loving like Christ, Be very kind with your help. (Galatians 6:1, 2; 1 Peter 3:8)
Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;”
