You have been giving or receiving all year long. This is done with an attitude of thanks to the Lord and to the folks that we meet. This was great…. Now, WELCOME TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

👩‍🍳PLEASE WELCOME THE QUARTERMASTER!!!👩‍🍳

The US Army, US Navy, and US Marines have a book of recipes called the Quartermaster’s Cookbook. It’s a small compilation of 2k+ recipes of how to plan for 100 servings of any and everything.

Her epic meal preparation was known for over a decade. This included providing meals for everyone who joined the Gold Country AWANA program every Wednesday evening. This was a compilation of cooking gear, serving materials, and plates, and everything was ready in advance. Then there were the surprising meals that were so wonderful that a buffet restaurant would be jealous.

RECIPES

A recipe for Chicken Chow Mein including nutrition information and ingredients list with weights and measures.

🥕 Ingredients: Build a Meal That Travels

Chow mein is wonderfully forgiving food. Start with noodles, then add what you have: cabbage, carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, peas or other vegetables, along with chicken, pork or another protein if available. A savory sauce of broth, soy sauce and seasonings pulls the whole skillet together. For a group of five or six, it becomes an inexpensive, colorful meal that stretches beautifully without looking stretched. The ingredients may be ordinary, but once they tumble together in that big pan, supper suddenly has personality. 🥬🥕🍗🍜

🍳 Preparation: From One Burner to Many

Chow mein can be prepared on one burner, in a church kitchen, or by the panful for a crowd. Cook the noodles, sauté the vegetables and meat, add the sauce, and bring everything together while it is piping hot. For larger outreach meals, the finished chow mein can travel in insulated food carriers or large food-service thermoses and be boxed at the destination. Or make the boxes ahead of time for a true grab-a-meal-and-find-a-seat approach. Either way, the goal is not an assembly line. Bring five or six people together, sit down with them, open the Bible, and turn dinner into conversation. 📖🥢

🥡 The Box: Put the Message Right on the Meal

There is something wonderfully complete about handing someone a little chow mein box. Chopsticks are novel and good for a laugh, especially when Adventure Cat is apparently conducting advanced research into the absence of opposable thumbs. 😹 For practical outreach, however, a sturdy fork wins the day. Put the Bible-study theme, Scripture reference, invitation or CHAPEL.today message right on the box. Then the package itself becomes part of the ministry. The chow mein feeds the body, the box introduces the message, and the table gives that message somewhere to become a conversation. Your Bible study is not something added to the food service. It is the reason the table was set. 🍜📖❤️

And one tiny historical noodle-twist before we box this up: the popular story that Marco Polo introduced pasta or spaghetti to Italy from China is almost certainly a legend. Pasta was already documented in Italy before Marco Polo returned from Asia. But his travels make a delightful doorway into the much older story of noodles traveling, changing, and becoming beloved foods across cultures. 🍜

A golden retriever wearing a blue bandana labeled 'Gospel Dog' looks curiously at a takeout box of noodles while a tabby cat, dressed in a matching blue bandana labeled 'Adventure Cat', attempts to use chopsticks to grab food. Both animals are positioned on a table with a Bible and other items, surrounded by a cozy setting.

HYPERMiling: Smart Ideas to Boost Mileage

HYPERMiling Idea 101: Coast to a red light. That is an obvious. The difference is a couple of seconds and a bunch of gas.

I’ve been doing this wrong for the last week… There is a red light, I’m supposed to put it into NEUTRAL and coast. Going down a hill and into a curve… NEUTRAL again. Going down Grant’s Pass – please use your engine to slow you. (you get the idea.) Be smart, Drive from Coast to Coast.

A friend of mine mentioned that you cannot go into neutral with hybrid cars. For what it’s worth, you cannot also do this with electric cars, motorcycles, or airplanes. This idea is best used on good old-fashioned stick shift trucks, but I use it on my Ram 1500 6-cyl, with a full-sized electrical box truck.

Hypermiling #1: Coast to the next red light. 🚦 Hypermiling #2: Watch for stale lights. 🛞 Hypermiling #3: Check tire pressure monthly. 🚚 Hypermiling #4: Remove unnecessary weight. 🌄 Hypermiling #5: Use hills to your advantage. 🚗 Hypermiling #6: Gentle acceleration beats jackrabbit starts.
