You have been giving or receiving all year long. This is done with an attitude of thanks to the Lord and to the folks that we meet. This was great…. Now, WELCOME TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
👩🍳PLEASE WELCOME THE QUARTERMASTER!!!👩🍳
The US Army, US Navy, and US Marines have a book of recipes called the Quartermaster’s Cookbook. It’s a small compilation of 2k+ recipes of how to plan for 100 servings of any and everything.
Her epic meal preparation was known for over a decade. This included providing meals for everyone who joined the Gold Country AWANA program every Wednesday evening. This was a compilation of cooking gear, serving materials, and plates, and everything was ready in advance. Then there were the surprising meals that were so wonderful that a buffet restaurant would be jealous.

🌽 Step 1: Reimagine Cornbread—It’s Not Just a Side Dish Anymore
Think of cornbread as the golden gatekeeper of Southern comfort food. It’s humble, hearty, and absorbs flavor like a sponge of glory! Tamale Pie takes that idea and says:
“What if the crust wasn’t the end… but the beginning?” I was once uncertain about Tamale Pie.
Now I’m a preacher of its promise. And my next sermon comes baked at 375°.
It’s not dry or crumbly—it’s tender, moist, often with a little cheese or spice mixed in. It’s the stage for what’s about to be poured into it: savory filling that preaches comfort.

🥘 Step 2: What IS Tamale Pie? A Holy Marriage of Flavor & Function
Tamale Pie is like a shepherd’s pie meets fiesta.
Here’s what’s inside the revival:
- Base layer: Seasoned ground beef or beans (or both!), sautéed with onions, garlic, tomatoes, olives, and taco spices.
- Middle: Cheese, glorious cheese. 🧀
- Top: A thick layer of cornbread batter—a blanket of joy that bakes into golden perfection.
As it cooks, the juices from the filling infuse the cornbread. It’s not dry, not mushy—just right. Like the kind of sermon that starts slow but leaves people shouting “AMEN!” at the altar call! 🔥

🍽️ Step 3: Serving Suggestions — From Skeptic to Salsa-Waving Fan
- Cut into squares, serve warm with a spoonful of sour cream or salsa on top.
- Pair with a green salad or rice and beans.
- Top with a mini card: “Taste and see that the Lord is good — Psalm 34:8”
- Great for large crowds—holds together like community and travels like testimony. 📖💛
Final Encouragement:
Tamale Pie is a culinary parable. At first, it might look strange. But once you dig in, you realize: the corn was never the problem—it was the vessel of a deeper goodness. Just like God often wraps truth in unexpected packages. 🙌
