The US Army, US Navy, and US Marines have a book of recipes called the Quartermaster’s Cookbook. It’s a small compilation of 2k+ recipes of how to plan for 100 servings of any and everything.
Her epic meal preparation was known for over a decade. This included providing meals for everyone who joined the Gold Country AWANA program every Wednesday evening. This was a compilation of cooking gear, serving materials, and plates, and everything was ready in advance. Then there were the surprising meals that were so wonderful that a buffet restaurant would be jealous.

Every year, we look forward to sharing with our neighbors the best that God has gifted to us. This is something that each Believer should do, as it is our testimony (Romans 12:13 & 1 Peter 4:9) It should be our second nature to be Southern Home-Style in our “Hey, come over and join us for dinner” attitude. Serious… check out those verses. grin.
Now… feeding the 5,000 took organization. We were only blessing a few of our closest neighbors. OK, it was anyone who dropped on by. It needs one organized beloved Mrs. Baboo while one guy mixing gravy with a Milwaukie power drill and a paint mixer. A very gracious neighbor shredding FOUR 18 lb Butterball turkeys. The 5 gallon approach to Russets with dry mix. A full team of smiles to produce and then to SERVE 75 meals on the sidewalk to complete strangers. Some of them strangers are like family to us and some are from our Capitol Hill Bible study and some are a real challenge.
STREET SERVING IDEAS:
Serve from the FRONT, not every side.
Have controlled portions
Have a rinse bucket and handy wipes for the team
Have a 3-minute shut down and move plan for emergencies.
