“This Sunday we move to First Thessalonians 5:1-2. Verse 2 refers to a term that is directly connected with the return of the Lord Jesus. The Day of the Lord is God’s appointment with each one of us. We will learn that the Day of the Lord is coming and is a future event. The Apostle Paul gave the Thessalonian church information concerning the times and seasons of this event (verse 1). He wrote, “you have no need that I should write to you” meaning that they had all they needed to know about the Day of the Lord even though he did not give them a date. He then presented a spiritual insight in verse 2a. The teaching concerning the Day of the Lord is connected with our present living. Knowing God’s appointment in the future causes us to trust and rest in Christ. At the end of verse 2, we’ll learn about that the illustration of the Day of the Lord is that Jesus will return “as a thief in the night.” Jesus will come again unannounced and unexpected. May we be ready. May we be watching. May we be serving.”
