“As we arrive at 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 we are considering “Our Hope of Reunion.” The reasons for our hope is that one day, we will be with Christ, and one day, we will be reunited with those who believe in Christ. These verses discuss the truth about death (4:12) and the truth about resurrection (4:13). Concerning death for the unbeliever, natural death leads to spiritual death. Death exists because of sin, and the end result of sin is the second death in the Lake of Fire. In contrast, the death of the believer is described as falling asleep. God want us to know the truth that death for a Christian is temporary in nature, like falling asleep. This truth gives us hope and comfort in times of sorrow and grief. We can trust God as we anticipate the day when He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. The reason why we have this blessed hope is because Jesus died and rose again. The death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus is the foundation for the resurrection of the believer. All who have died in Christ will be raised up in Christ. You must face the question concerning belief or unbelief. Those who do not believe in Jesus do not have hope. And if you believe that Jesus died and rose again, because Jesus lives, you will live also. And this truth provides hope and comfort for us.”
