“The clear target of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Thessalonian Church is the gospel. Hearing the receiving the gospel is absolutely necessary for salvation. We must do what we can to get the gospel out, to speak the gospel, and to make Christ known. As we do this, First Thessalonians 4:9-12 teaches there are two side. One side is within the church and the other side is before the watching world around us. Last Sunday, we learned about the gospel and our love (4:9-10). Brotherly love exists in the church and is to be practiced in the church. We are to display love to one another as Christ so loves us. This is the new commandment: To love like Jesus (John 13:34). This Sunday, we’ll learn about the gospel and our living (4:11-12). This points to the witness and testimony of our lives before unbelievers. This life is described as being quiet, minding our own business, working, and walking properly “toward those who are outside.” The life you live matters in relation to the gospel. May we understand the central message of the gospel that is accompanied with our loving one another and living before a watching world in a proper and God pleasing manner.”
