Background: The Apostle Paul returned to Jerusalem for the Passover only to be arrested at his entry into the Temple. He gives his personal testimony in chapter 23 and the Jews demand his execution. The Roman guards bring Paul into the Palace Castle for the night and today he will speak to the entire counsel of the Hebrew nation, the Sanhedrin.

DON’T DO THIS:

1. Underhanded and quiet HATE – v. 9, 14
   v. 9 “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
   v. 14 “Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.”
2. HATE that gets even – v. 17, 19
   Matt. 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
3. Overcome by HATE – v. 21

DO THIS:

1. LOVE what is good – v. 9, 10
   a. Cleave to good – v. 9
   b. Give Honour – v. 10
   c. Be Humble – v. 16
2. Bless in LOVE – v. 14
   a. Bless in return – v. 14
   b. Turn the cheek – Matt. 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. Luke 6:29
3. LOVE that conquers – v. 20, 21
   a. What is Love? I Corinthians 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth:
   b. Who is Love? 1 John 4:7, 8
