Acts Chapter 14 – My Relatives Could Not Behave Themselves Either

Do you have relatives that you just don’t understand? They are nice to everyone else. Yet, when they ask for a favor, and you help, they end up doing something so awful, that you wonder if they hate you. It’s like the pessimistic phrase, “No good deed goes unpunished!” The Apostle Paul met my great ancestors who were Scotch-Irish back in the late 40s-AD. They were really mean to Paul, right after he did them a great favor. They tried to kill him! You see, My Relatives Could NOT Behave Themselves Either!

Acts Chapter 14 – My Relatives Could NOT Behave Themselves Either
…a message by Chaplain Aaron

  1. Paul & Barnabas Came to Share Christ – vs. 1-7
    a. Teaching in Iconium Synagogue – vs. 1-3
Teaching IS the Great Commission – Matthew 28:18-20
    b. Threats of Violence – vs. 4-7
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; Luke 10:3
  2. Helping The Cripple at Lystra – vs.8-18
    a. The Cripple Heard the Message – vs. 8-10
1st the Gospel of Salvation, Then the Faith that Shows Evidence.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
This is where faith shows truth. I challenge myself to trust Christ to the point of having my faith tested in front of the unsaved person. I want them to see a living Saviour in their life. I am not content with a sitting on the couch spiritual life that is easy for the unbelievers to dismiss. I want to live for Christ so that my unsaved neighbors will ask God to give them a new life, not because they see my actions; but because they see Christ in my actions. We should be bold.
    b. The Misconception of the Masses – vs. 11-20
About My Superstitious Relatives… It was political season
Julius Caesar was just assassinated. He was the deified “Jupiter” ruler of the Roman Empire. They normally sacrificed people or political competitors at the 8-Days of The Ides of March Festivals. My Celtic family loved every new mythological druid worship leader that came along. Paul and Barnabas were perfect deity candidates.
    c. Opportunistic Instigators – vs. 19-20
There is always a critic in the crowd.
“He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Jim Elliott
“For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21; but I’ll stay. You need help. v. 24
  3. Returning to Encourage – vs. 21-28
    a. Continuing Through Bad Days – vs. 21-25
    b. Accountable To Return – vs. 26-28

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

May the Lord bless you as you walk with him with each new day. I am glad to present an hour of Celtic Hymns.
